Accessibility Statement
East Coast Building Consultants is committed to making its website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We want every visitor — whether arranging private certification, a dilapidation report or a pool fence inspection — to be able to find information and contact us easily.
Our conformance target
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive and neurological disabilities.
This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA: most of the site meets the standard, but some content does not yet fully conform. We are actively working to close the remaining gaps, which are listed under “Known issues” below.
What we have done
- A “skip to content” link and a single, clearly labelled main content region on every page, so keyboard and screen-reader users can move straight to the page content.
- The site language is set to Australian English (en-AU) so screen readers pronounce content correctly.
- Meaningful text alternatives (alt text) for images.
- A logical heading structure on each page.
- Visible keyboard focus and support for navigating the site with a keyboard.
- Every visible field in our enquiry and quote forms has a label that is programmatically linked to it, so screen readers announce each field correctly.
- Decorative icons and graphics are hidden from screen readers so they do not add noise to the page.
- Body text and interface colours have been reviewed and meet the 4.5:1 contrast ratio required at Level AA.
- Animation and smooth scrolling are switched off automatically for visitors whose device is set to reduce motion.
Known issues
We are aware of the following issues and are working to resolve them:
- Assistive-technology testing: a full screen-reader and keyboard audit (using axe-core, NVDA and VoiceOver) is scheduled. Until it is complete, we cannot confirm the parts of WCAG that automated checks do not cover.
- Form error messages: if a form submission fails, the error is shown on a separate page rather than announced beside the field concerned. We are reviewing how this is presented to screen-reader users.
- Embedded map: our office location map is provided by Google Maps. Its accessibility is outside our control, so every address and phone number shown on the map is also given as text on the same page.
- Older documents and images: some material carried over from our previous website is still being checked for text alternatives and reading order.
How this website was assessed
This statement is based on a self-evaluation combined with automated accessibility testing, most recently on 21 July 2026 following the rebuild of this website on a new publishing platform. A full manual audit using assistive technologies is planned, and this statement will be updated as issues are resolved.
